would rather 意思是“宁愿、宁可”， 用来表达说话人现在或将来的选择偏好。

相当于情态动词， 后跟省略to的动词不定式（动词原形）,常常省略为“'d rather”:

1，肯定句

I would rather/I'd rather stay at home this Sunday.

这个星期天我宁愿呆在家里。

I would rather/I'd rather learn a new language than study math.

我宁愿学一门新语言也不愿学数学。

Mary would rather/Mary'd rather spend time on the beach with her family.

玛丽宁愿和家人呆在海滩。

He said he would rather/He'd rather have more money.

他说他宁愿有更多的钱。

2，否定句

would rather not do

Would they rather do homework tomorrow morning?

他们宁愿明天早上做作业吗？

Wouldn't you rather stay at home?

你不愿意呆在家里吗？

What would you rather do instead?

你宁愿做别的什么？

-Do you want to come with us?

-No, I'd rather not.

-你想和我们一起去吗？

-不，我不想。

3，疑问句

Would主语 rather do

She'd rather not go there by bus.

她宁愿不坐车去那里。

I'd rather not take the money.

我宁愿不拿钱。

He would rather not answer that question.

他宁愿不回答那个问题。

4，would rather …… than……

would rather 常常和than连用，表达在两种情况之间的选择：

I would rather/I'd rather learn a new language than study math.

我宁愿学一门新语言也不愿学数学。

She would rather play tennis than go horseback riding.

她宁愿打网球也不愿骑马。

I would rather have an orange than a pear.

我宁愿要只桔子也不想吃梨。

I'd rather live in the country than in the cities.

我宁愿住在乡下也不愿住在城市里。

She'd rather die than marry him.

她宁愿死也不愿嫁给他。

注意：

1，宁愿做的是would rather 后的事。

2，than后面如果是动词，要用动词原形

5，would rather …… or ……

用在问对方在两者之间的选择:

Would you rather have three kids or just one?

你想要三个孩子还是一个？

Would you rather live in the North or the South?

你宁愿住在北方还是南方？

Would you rather do the homework or watch TV?

你宁愿做作业还是看电视？

Would you rather walk or go by car?

你宁愿步行还是坐车去？

6，would rather that 从句：

Would rather 后面跟从句，一般是对事实的一种愿望，要用虚拟句型，也就是说，从句中谓语动词要用过去式did：

-Do you mind if I smoke?

-I’d rather (that)you didn't.

-你介意我抽烟吗？

-我宁愿你不要。

I would rather (that) my son workedin finance.

我宁愿我儿子在金融界工作。

Would you rather (that) she camewith us?

你宁愿她和我们一起去吗？

I'd rather (that) you came another time.

我宁愿你下次再来。

She would rather (that) he weren'tso anxious to leave.

她宁可他不要急于离开。
